except with that kendo picture; a little correction for you would be that the left hand is generally near the rear of the shinai. ( how u properly hold shinai)

that's true for both of the kendokas.
The Nito (two sword wielding user) usually has the left hand towards the base; but not at the base. It's hard to actually do this, but the forearm muscles nito-users have are amazing.
